The comedy, Ride, will be realsed mid 2015

Screen Media Films has clinched the deal for North American distribution rights to Helen Hunt’s comedy “Ride,” which stars Hunt, Brenton Thwaites, Luke Wilson and David Zayas.

Screen Media will release the film in theaters nationwide in the second quarter of 2015.

Helen Hunt has produced, directed and stars in the flick alongside Brenton Thwaites, Luke Wilson, and David Zayas.

“Ride” is Hunt’s second directorial venture following “Then She Found Me” in 2007. She portrays the character of an editor from The New Yorker who follows her son (Thwaites) to Los Angeles after he drops out of college to surf and find himself. In the process Hunt’s character winds up discovering her own sexuality with a surf instructor, played by Luke Wilson. She befriends a limo driver played by David Zayas. This self realization helps her to understand and heal her fractured relationship with her son.

“I made this movie for mothers, sons, fathers, daughters, surfers and people who fall apart and come back together,” she said. “Screen Media is the perfect place to get ‘Ride’ to its audience.”

Hunt wrote the script. The movie’s other producers are Lizzie Friedman, Karen Lauder, Greg Little and Moon Blauner.

Executive producers are Louise Runge, Samantha Housman, Matthew Carnahan, Robert Beaumont, Kevin Iwashina, Roxanne Fie Anderson, Elizabeth Stillwell, Bruce Bendell, Michael Paesano and Eric Alini. The film was financed by Sandbar Pictures, Abandon Features, Big Block Ventures and @TheMovies Entertainment.

“I made this movie for mothers, sons, fathers, daughters, surfers and people who fall apart and come back together,” Hunt said. “Screen Media is the perfect place to get Ride to its audience.”

The water photography in Ride was done by world-famous water cameraman Sonny Miller, who died in July of a heart attack at age 53. This was his last film and it is dedicated to him.
