Hypnosis – Witchcraft or Medicine at Its Finest?

Hypnosis – Witchcraft or Medicine at Its Finest?

With mental problems becoming one of the largest health issues in the United States, hypnosis has become one of the most widespread treatments. Although outcomes vary, there is a significant amount of people in the country swearing by its efficiency. If you are thinking about hypnosis treatment, it is good to know what hypnosis was at the dawn of time and how it has progressed.

Hypnosis dates back to the beginning of the civilization. The word comes from the Greek word “ypnos”, meaning sleep. However, when a person is in a state of hypnosis, they are not sleeping. The subject is alert, able to move and talk. The first concrete proof of hypnosis can be traced back to 1600s when people used hypnotic methods to calm down chickens. They hypnotized them using wood shavings which the chickens balanced on their beaks. A logical question arises – what is the purpose of hypnosis today? Basically, it is used to bypass the conscious mind. The conscious mind will sometimes prevent a positive thought from being implemented into the mind. Unlike the conscious mind, the unconscious or subconscious mind is susceptible to suggestions.

Contrary to popular opinion, you are more in control whilst you are in the state on unconscious than when you are conscious. If your subconscious mind is finding some suggestion to be unacceptable, it will reject the thought because it is highly rational in decision-making. To sum up, hypnosis can be used to tackle a wide range of problems like anxiety, eating disorders, depression, smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, biting nails, stress, and so on. Basically, it treats all these issues by getting the unconscious and conscious minds saying the same thing. If you have tried a number of treatments and nothing came out of it, maybe it is time to surrender yourself into the hands of a (certified!) hypnotist.
